Ziebarth: As recipients of the BCSCTA Roots Grant, this collaborative group at North Delta Secondary School are team teaching Science 9. We collaborate to integrate the core with the curricular competencies and craft lessons that focus on Inquiry and student-centered learning. We would like to share the benefits and fruits of our collaboration sessions, including our thought processes during these sessions and the final assessment we created.  

Onotera: This workshop looks at how cedar trees can be used to teach the new BC science curriculum and how it can be linked to Aboriginal culture. We will provide lesson plans about cedar trees for Kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 5 but these lessons can be adapted to any elementary grade level.  In this workshop, we will describe and provide photos of some of the activities that can be taken and used in the classrooms right away. In addition, you will have the opportunity to carve soap to develop a better understanding of how totem poles are carved.
