STEM - Fun and Engaging Activities with a Design Focus for your Science Classroom

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This workshop is geared towards teachers interested in refreshing their lessons and engaging their students in science by incorporating STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) activities into their lessons.  This is a hands on workshop where teachers will not only be presented with several different STEM activities, but will actually participate and perform the activities.  All participants will leave the presentation with new STEM activities and a link to a Google drive folder with all the demonstrations and documents (from the day) they will need for their own classrooms.

The push towards STEM activities in our classrooms is to help students develop strong mathematical and scientific connections and skills.  These activities focus on real-world issues and problems (social, economic, and environmental) and makes students seek solutions for these problems. STEM activities are different from science activities as they are guided by the engineering design process.  In this process, students define problems, conduct background research, develop multiple ideas for solutions, develop and create a prototype, and then test, evaluate, and redesign them.
